Spike TV to Air “Ultimate Iceman” Chuck Liddell on May 31
On the night Elite Xtreme Combat makes it network television debut on CBS, Spike TV and the UFC will counter with a night-long broadcast schedule of Chuck Liddell programming.
"EliteXC: PRIMETIME" airs from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT, and Spike TV's homage to Liddell begins at 8 p.m. ET/PT and runs for three hours.
At 9:00pm ET/PT, Spike presents the world television premiere of “Ultimate Iceman: Chuck Liddell,” an hour-long documentary which chronicles the life of one of the sport’s true titans, in and out of the Octagon™.
Spike debuts a special, “Liddell vs. Silva: UFC Unleashed™-Special Edition” at 10:00pm ET/PT featuring the never-before-seen on cable battle between Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, which was fought last December at UFC 79: NEMESIS.
This historic contest featured the matchup that fight fans waited years to see. Liddell, the biggest name in the sport and former UFC light-heavyweight champion, sought to finally answer the challenges of the long-time PRIDE® superstar Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva. The special includes additional backstage exclusive footage.
Fighting out of San Luis Obispo, CA, “The Iceman” has a 21-5 professional record. Considered by many to be the biggest star ever in the history of mixed martial arts, Liddell successfully defended his title five times, all by knockout or submission, before giving it up to Rampage Jackson last year. He is currently recovering from a severe hamstring injury he suffered while training, which forced him to withdraw from a fight with “The Ultimate Fighter® 2″ Rashad Evans at UFC 85 in June.
Spike TV will kick off this special night dedicated to the “Iceman” at 8:00pm ET/PT with a telecast of the hard-hitting special, “Ultimate Knockouts 4,” also featuring some of Liddell’s most memorable bouts.
