JAMES IRVIN TESTS POSITIVE

Following his UFC Fight Night 14 bout against Anderson Silva on July 19, James Irvin tested positive for banned substances, the Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed to MMAWeekly today.

Following the loss to Silva, Irvin submitted to a urinalysis, and the urinalysis reflected the presence of Methadone and Oxymorphone.

Oxymorphone is a pain reliever prescribed to alleviate moderate to severe pain. Methadone is most commonly prescribed to recovering heroin addicts or for the management of chronic pain.

None of the fighters who competed on the July 19 card were subject to the NSAC's out-of-competition drug testing policy, which could have been due to the event being put together on relatively short notice.

Eleven of the 22 fighters who competed on the card were tested at the event. Anderson Silva, James Irvin, Hermes Franca, Cain Velasquez, Brandon Vera, CB Dollaway, Tim Credeur, Frankie Edgar, Shannon Gugerty, and Nate Loughran were all tested for steroids, drugs of abuse, and stimulants. Irvin is the only competitor who tested positive for a banned substance.

Irvin has 20 days to formally respond to the NSAC. Previous cases of fighters testing positive for drugs of abuse in Nevada have typically resulted in suspensions of eight or nine months.

Affliction 2: Tito Ortiz vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral

According to YahooSports, Affliction is close to signing a fight between former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (15-6-1) and Renato “Babalu” Sobral (30-7) at the promotions next event slated for October 11, from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV. Affliction has not confirmed or denied the fight, but a press conference for the event is scheduled for August 6.

Sources have told Yahoo! Sports that free agent Tito Ortiz will fight Renato “Babalu” Sobral in the co-main event at Affliction’s next fight card, on Oct. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas.

Afflictions second event is expected to be headlined by the heavyweight superfight between Fedor Emelianenko and former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski.

PureCombat is "BACK" to Visalia Ca.

HARD CORE is coming and they're not going to play nice!...August 15th at the VisaliaConvention Center...with the main event sure to appease a hungry crowd. Emanuel "Hard Core Kid" Newton, who fought Kyacey Uscola for the Gladiator Challenge Light Heavy Weight belt and won and has also fought in the IFL, is fighting UFC Veteran and Ultimate Fighter Season 1 competitor, Lodune Sincaid. Emanuel is on a 6 fight winning streak, and is known for his love of slamming his opponent to the mat as many times possible. He is equally efficient in his striking and his ground game while Lodune has fought guys such as Nathan Quarry, Kyacey Uscola, James Irvin and Doug Marshall. Lodune is sure to push Emanuel to his limits to see what he's really made of.

Scott Lighty, who styles his striking after his training partner Chuck Liddell, has an impressive record in the K-1 of 23-8-2 (6 KO's), steps into our cage for the second time to further his 2-0 MMA career. You may have seen him at our event Feb. 29th in Visalia "Lights Out" where he devastated Paul Mince in the main event with his vicious strikes and overbearing ground and pound that ended the night with Lights Out for Paul. http://www.mefeedia.com/entry/scott-lighty-vs-paul-mince/7676614 We also have Jason Von Flue, now fighting out of the Fresno Kickboxing Academy, is coming back to prove he's still in the game...by going back to his roots he plans on giving Bryson Kamaka, from the 808 Fight Factory, the fight of his life.

We have an equally exciting under card with Chuck Liddell's younger brother making his debut with PureCombat. Dan Liddell will step into the cage weighing 280 lbs and with a lot to prove. His opponent, Charles Hodges will be weighing in at 340 lbs....this fight should be very entertaining as these super heavyweights stand and bang it out. Another one of Chuck's teammates, Cruz Gomez with only one fight under his belt since his 6 year absence from the cage and after losing to a controversial decision against Isaac de Jesus in our May 9th event, Bring The Pain, in Stockton. He's very eager for this fight against Gigo Jara, Jaime Jara's little brother. Cruz plans on finishing this fight and says he'll make the decision on this one. Of course, Chuck will be there to support his brother and his other teammates so come on out and see the last event of the year in this are for PureCombat.

The weigh ins for this event will be at the Cellar Door in downtown Visalia on the corner of Main St. and Court. Come early and be a part of the filming as Knockout TV brings their High Definition cameras capturing the crowd and the fighters as they prepare for the next evenings event. The weighing in officially starts at 8PM but come early and be a part of the excitement.

We will be having an after party in the Ballroom of the Convention Center immediately following the fights...There will be 4 full bars, food available and music to dance to....With a special $1000 bonus being given away to the fighter who had the "Best Move of the Night". We just don't want the night to end but to have the opportunity for everyone to hang out, talk, dance and maybe get a picture with your favorite fighter of the night.

Don't miss the last fight of the season for PureCombat here in this area...the VisaliaConvention Center Friday, August 15th. The doors open at 6pm and fights start at 7:30pm. For tickets, call 559-713-4040 or go online at www.purecombatmma.com.
